In 1761, the German chemist Faber solved this problem: he first ground the graphite ore into powder, washed it with water to remove impurities and obtained pure graphite powder; Then, he added sulfur, antimony, rosin and other substances into the graphite powder; Then the mixture is heated, solidified and pressed into the shape of a pen, which is the earliest prototype of a pencil.

Phase II

The birth of wooden pen holder:

After a hundred years of development, the "pencil" at this time has entered the primary stage of its own evolution. The emergence of wooden pencil rod has become a semi-finished product of "pencil". This kind of pencil rod is mainly on the market, and users need to cut it again before they can use it;

From today's perspective, the "pencil" invented by Conde is actually just a pencil lead. The task of putting a wooden pole "coat" on the pencil lead was completed by an American carpenter named William Monroe in 1812. Monroe's machine can cut standardized strips of wood 5 to 18 cm long and dig a groove in the middle of the strips that just fits the pencil lead. Put the pencil lead into the slot, and then align and bond the two wooden strips, which makes the first pencil rod in a modern sense. To this day, this is still the standard process for manufacturing ordinary pen holders.

Phase III

The birth of capped pencils: with the extensive use of pencils, a series of problems with the traditional pencil rod have also been exposed, which has brought many troubles to people, such as unsanitary use, easy breaking of the pen tip and difficult to carry, which have brought new challenges to the progress and development of the pencil industry, The emergence of capped pencils solves the development bottleneck encountered by the modern pencil industry in product innovation.
